A
Letter To Readers From The Editor And Publisher
WINSTED – The News Briefs and The Beyond Department just got bigger.
The Winsted Citizen – which premiered in
February covering several northwest Connecticut towns, then expanded in April
to Litchfield County and Beyond – has busted its boundaries once again.
Our expanded News Briefs and Press Releases sections
online – See The News Briefs Button @ www.winstedcitizen.org and The Press Release entry @ The Blog Button – give us more
room to circulate local news of community interest in a timely manner.
Every month, starting with our second
edition in March, we have had to adapt radically to survive. We continue to
meet this challenge to the best of our abilities.
In recent editions readers have seen
datelines from within and beyond Litchfield County: Old Lyme, East Hartford,
New Haven, Hartford, Colebrook, Torrington, Warren, Winchester, Winsted,
Barkhamsted, Bethlehem, Morris, Kent, Bantam, Lakeville, Norfolk, Canaan, New
Hartford and New Milford. Readers will continue to see a variety of stories,
long and short, from throughout Connecticut and beyond. We will maintain our
base in Northwest Connecticut while continuing to publish wide-ranging stories
about local, regional and national news, sports, politics, the courts, the arts
and wherever our contributors take us.
The community response to the paper has been
organic, supportive and heartwarming. We just had our best month in ad revenue.
Subscriptions continue to grow for print and online. Our team has assembled
data for a new grant application.
The reality is that our best month so far
projects a substantial deficit. To continue providing and improving what we
believe is a viable product, our emphasis will of necessity shift to online at
this time.
Check us out @ www.winstedcitizen.org. We encourage
you read, enjoy, subscribe advertise and donate.
Also, watch for our announcement on a major
fundraising event Sunday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. at Gilson Cinema Café in Winsted.
The
event will feature live music, poets, writers, boxers and more. There will be a
suggested donation for admission. Proceeds will be shared by The Winsted
Citizen, the Connecticut State Police Museum and a fund for badly-injured
boxers administered by Iceman John Scully. Scully, the former world light
heavyweight contender, now serves on the training team for Artur Beterbiev, who
is scheduled to defend his unified light heavyweight title in Quebec City in
January. In Connecticut, Scully trains boxers at the Charter Oak Boxing Academy
in Hartford.
Retail and home print delivery for The
Winsted Citizen will continue in late October with the Fall 2023 edition. The
next print edition after that, Winter 2024, is scheduled for February.
