Winchester Republicans Launch Campaign
Contact: Ryan Horvay,

WINSTED—Featuring a full slate of candidates and a new chairman, the Winchester Republican Town Committee has announced the start of a neighborhood-by-neighborhood outreach effort to voters ahead of November’s municipal election.
“Residents are craving a new yet simple
vision for our community, and I’m thrilled to be a part of a unified slate that
is laser focused on delivering progress that residents can see and feel on key
issues such as road repair and economic growth,” Mayor Todd Arcelaschi said.
“Switching gears from a longstanding Democrat majority would finally put into
effect the power of a team whose members are rowing in one direction, and I
look forward to joining my Republican colleagues on the campaign trail to
listen to residents and share our thoughts on issues that matter to them.”
Arcelaschi is joined on the party’s Board of
Selectmen slate by Troy Lamere, Paul Marino, William Hester, and William Pozzo.
Town Clerk Glenn Albanesius is running unopposed, while Shane Centrella and
Jonathan Morhardt will seek seats on the Board of Education. Griffin Travaglin
and Keith Tracy are candidates for constable.
“Our goals are in line with what residents of
this town want — a stable, forward-looking town hall and educational system
with an affordable price tag,” said Ryan Horvay, who was chosen unanimously as
Town Committee chairman in August after its former chairman resigned. “I think
majority Democrats have lost sight of that basic mission, demonstrated most
recently by a flawed property revaluation process. Our roads are in disrepair,
public safety is threatened by an understaffed police department, and residents
are under more financial pressure than ever. We believe residents of this
community deserve better.”
Economic development, Horvay said, is at the
top of the agenda for Republicans, who seek to diversify the town’s tax base to
ease pressure on residential property taxpayers. What’s more, the new
Republican chairman said the looming vacancy in the town manager’s office
places added importance on choosing the right people in November to lead the
town.
“There’s little doubt that financial
challenges and big decisions are on the horizon for our town, but Republicans
view these as opportunities to finally do things the right way and set our
community on a course to reach its potential,” he said. “We’ve got a great
collection of individuals who bring unique professional experiences to the
table. I’m thrilled to be leading the committee at this interesting time, and I
look forward to seeing what our candidates accomplish after they’re elected.”
Republican candidates, Horvay said, are taking their message to voters by knocking on doors throughout town.
