 WINSTED – The public is invited to a celebration of news, music, sports and the arts at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023 at the Gilson Cinema Café, 354 Main St.

   Attendees will be greeted by the sounds of a Jazz / R&B Combo featuring Matt Dwonszyk, bass; Jen Allen, keyboard; Rick Reyes, guitar / vocals; Asher Delerme, percussion; Kris Jensen, alto sax; and Joshua Bruneau, trumpet. Additional personnel to be announced.

   Speakers and presenters will include Iceman John Scully, former world light heavyweight contender and trainer; CT State Police Det. Sgt. (Retired) Jerry Longo, chairman of the CT State Police Museum; poet Elizabeth Thomas; reporters Ella Gannon and Reynaldo Cruz Diaz; and Andy Thibault, editor and publisher of The Winsted Citizen.

   The Winsted Citizen – which premiered in February covering several northwest Connecticut towns, then expanded in April to Litchfield County and Beyond – has busted its boundaries once again.

   In recent editions readers have seen datelines from Old Lyme, East Hartford, New Haven, Hartford, Colebrook, Torrington, Warren, Winchester, Winsted, Barkhamsted, Bethlehem, Morris, Kent, Bantam, Lakeville, Norfolk, Canaan, New Hartford and New Milford. Readers will continue to see a variety of stories, long and short, from throughout Connecticut and beyond. We will maintain our base in Northwest Connecticut while continuing to publish wide-ranging stories about local, regional and national news, sports, politics, the courts, the arts and wherever our contributors take us.

   The community response to the paper has been organic, supportive and heartwarming. We just had our best month in ad revenue. Subscriptions continue to grow for print and online. Our team has assembled data for a new grant application.

    The reality is that our best month so far projects a substantial deficit. To continue providing and improving what we believe is a viable product, our emphasis will of necessity shift to online at this time.

    Retail and home print delivery will continue in late October with the Fall 2023 edition. Features in the Fall Edition include an interview with a new school superintendent, a feature on a young entrepreneur with four growing businesses, a poem in support of the United Auto Workers, Jack’s Real Deal real estate column, a review of a local restaurant by Rand Richards Cooper and The Spice Chronicles, a column by Alan Thayer of Spice320.

   The next print edition following Fall 2023, Winter 2024, is scheduled for February.
